Gantton · a single-file Gantt planner that runs entirely in your browser. Your projects are saved only where you choose (.gantt files).
Your projects stay on your computer. The contents of your project plan are confidential to you, and only you get to control who sees them and how. So Gantton runs entirely in your browser: your projects are saved only where you choose, and their contents are never sent anywhere. We couldn’t see any of your project details even if we really, really wanted to. Ain’t no EULA that’ll take that away from you.
Visit statistics. gantton.app counts visits anonymously with Cloudflare Web Analytics. That’s because we’re super-curious to see how our creation is making it in the world. Important privacy-related stuff: Gantton uses no cookies and never reports the contents of your projects. We don’t see your IP address, or any of your personally identifying information. That goes for projects, exports, all of it. What we do see: the country you’re in, the browser and kind of device you’re using, and the site that linked you here.
Our policy on evil: strongly against it. We don’t sell your data on the back-end. We don’t monetize your activities. We just thought this would be a cool tool that we’d like to use, and hope you do too. No agenda, no ulterior motives, just trying to make the world a teeny tiny bit better. I mean, it’s a Gantt chart, so, like, come on.
Gantton keeps your projects in My Project Files, inside this browser, and saves every change there automatically — there’s no Save button. Open it with the My Project Files button next to the project name, or the G menu › File › My Project Files… (or Open…, Ctrl+O); Recent lists the last few projects. Projects start in Home; make folders inside it to organise them, and drag projects onto a folder to move them. To bring in a .gantt file, drag it onto the window (it opens) or use Import .gantt files… in My Project Files. In Chrome and Edge a project can also be linked to a .gantt file on your computer (⋯ › Link to a .gantt file…), which then stays up to date too — handy for a copy in Dropbox or OneDrive. A project can be edited in one tab at a time; another tab shows it read-only, with Edit here instead.
Where they live. My Project Files is kept by your browser, for this address (gantton.app), on this computer. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there are no accounts — so another browser, another computer, or a private window has its own, separate My Project Files. (A Gantton file saved to your computer and opened from there has its own too.)
Saving. Every change is saved within a second. Closing the tab or the browser loses nothing; reloading brings back the project you had open. A project can be edited in one tab at a time; another tab shows it read-only, with Edit here instead.
What can erase them. Clearing your browser’s “site data” or “cookies and site data” for gantton.app deletes My Project Files. Safari may also clear site data for websites you haven’t used for a while. Deleted projects go to Trash first and are removed for good after 30 days.
Keep a copy. In My Project Files, Back up (zip)… saves everything — projects and folders — in one zip file; Restore… brings it back (here or in another browser), updating projects you already have rather than duplicating them. The footer shows when you last backed up. In Chrome and Edge you can also link a project to a .gantt file on your computer (⋯ › Link to a .gantt file…), which then stays up to date — for example in Dropbox or OneDrive. Import a folder… brings in a folder of .gantt files with its subfolders.
G menu › File › Export › HTML (view-only) saves a single file anyone can open in a browser: they can zoom, pan, collapse phases and read notes, but not edit. It includes a “Download .gantt” button if they have Gantton.
G menu › File › Export: Excel saves a spreadsheet of the tasks (outline, dates, durations, links, % complete, colours and notes) with the holidays on a second sheet. PDF prints the chart with a colour legend. PNG saves a picture of the chart with a transparent background. HTML (view-only): see Sharing.
The Duration column shows every task in one unit. Click the d / wk button in its header to switch. A plain number is read in the current unit; add a unit to override it: 3d, 0.5d, 2w, 1.5wk, 2mo (also m, month, months). 1 week = 5 working days, 1 month = 20 working days. Weekends are skipped and shaded. 0 makes a milestone.
Indent tasks under a task (Tab) and it becomes a summary task: its black bar follows its subtasks, and its duration shows the span they cover (Scheduled). Its own duration is remembered: if all its subtasks are removed, it goes back to it. Links to a summary task apply to everything inside it.
G menu › Holidays: the switch turns holidays on or off; click the word to edit them. Ontario statutory holidays are calculated for every year; you can change any dates, turn individual holidays off, or add your own. When on, holidays are skipped like weekends and shaded on the chart (hover for the name). Saved with each project.
Copy several lines (from Notepad, Word, Excel…) and paste into a task name: each line becomes its own task. Or select a row (not editing) and press Ctrl+V: the lines are added as tasks below it. Bullets and numbering are stripped. From Excel, a second column with a duration (e.g. 3d, 2w, or a number) is used as the task's duration.
Select one or more rows and press Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+X to cut), then select a row and press Ctrl+V: the tasks are pasted below it, at its level. Phases come with their subtasks, notes and colours; links between the copied tasks are kept. Works between projects in different tabs too. Pasting into Excel or Notepad gives a list of names and durations; pasting such a list back in keeps its indent levels.
The side panel ends with the colours used in this project (plus + for the rest of the 10). Click one to colour the selected task(s); type what each colour means (e.g. “External vendors”); drag ⋮⋮ to reorder. The number shows how many tasks use a colour — click it to select them. Labelled colours appear as a legend when you print. In the full column view, the Col. column shows each task’s colour: hover to see its label, click to pick another.
Tasks with notes show a small note icon next to their bar — hover over it to read the note. In the full column view, the Notes column shows the first line; hover for the whole note, click to edit it in the side panel.
Tick the ✓ box on a row to mark it done (100%). Ticking a summary task checks off everything inside it; un-ticking restores the previous % complete.
Click the ⛶ button at the top right (or Ctrl+Shift+F) to hide everything else on screen: Gantton floats on a dark backdrop. Drag an empty part of its header to move it; double-click there to fill the screen, and again to restore. Drag its edges or corners to resize it. Press and hold Esc, or click ⛶ again, to leave.
